Collins repeatedly pushed to put Medicare and Social Security on the chopping block, saying it was “never meant to be a retirement plan”
ATLANTA — Today, the Democratic Party of Georgia is rolling out the latest addition to DCDoug.com focused on Collins’ reckless record of trying to undermine Georgians’ hard-earned Social Security and Medicare.
In addition to voting to raise the retirement age for Social Security while also supporting the GOP tax handout that “trimmed a year of solvency from the primary Medicare trust fund and had a negative effect on the Social Security trust fund,” Collins has directly attacked these vital programs. Collins claimed that Social Security was “never meant to be a retirement plan” and called for “getting at the real costs” by “go[ing] to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid.” He even pushed to “just redo the system” for these critical programs, putting them at risk for future Georgia retirees.
“Georgia seniors are relying on critical programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid more than ever amid this pandemic, but Congressman Doug Collins is not backing down from his toxic agenda to put Georgians’ hard-earned benefits programs on the chopping block,” said Alex Floyd, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “Instead of trying to protect these vital earned benefits programs that Georgians have paid into, Collins is ready to ‘redo’ these programs while voting to raise retirement ages and for a tax giveaway that trimmed solvency from their funding.”
